At COAST, all of our practitioners believe in a hands on, exercise-based approach to treatment. Our goal is to work seamlessly as an integrated team to ensure the best possible care for our clients. Our Physiotherapists offer a wide range of skills and experiences to help diagnose and rehabilitate an injury, and to work with you to prevent future injuries.
What is a Physiotherapist?
Physiotherapists are health practitioners who specialize in the science of movement and pain.
Who Should See a Physiotherapist?
Everyone! If you are suffering from an injury or pain, a physiotherapist can help diagnose and provide a holistic approach to treatment.
At COAST, our Physiotherapy team has experience treating and rehabilitating professional athletes, post-operative patients, and victims of car accidents. Additionally, physiotherapists can help manage long-term or chronic health problems such as arthritis.
In B.C. you do not need a doctor’s referral in order to see a physiotherapist and most extended medical insurance offers coverage for physiotherapy treatment.
What To Expect?
Approaches and treatments can vary significantly between physiotherapists. In addition to their Masters Degree of Physical Therapy, many Physiotherapists obtain training and certification in other treatment techniques, such as dry needling or IMS.
Other treatment techniques that Physiotherapists use include:
Soft-tissue massage
Joint mobilization and manipulation
Exercise programs
Taping
At COAST, our Physiotherapists offer extensive skill sets to help guide rehabilitation from acute and chronic injuries. They also work with patients of all ages who suffer from a wide range of health conditions.
Appointments usually range from 30 minutes to an hour. Patients will be asked health related questions such as history of previous injuries. Depending on the issue, the physiotherapist will perform an assessment through a variety of movement based tests such as mobility and muscle weaknesses or imbalances. Lastly, the physiotherapist will provide a personalized treatment plan to address the immediate issue and help prevent future injuries.
Physiotherapists are a critical part of the rehabilitation team at COAST and a great compliment to many treatments that we offer, such as Massage Therapy, Kinesiology and Athletic Therapy.
