What is a Registered Massage Therapist?

A registered massage therapist (RMT) is a health professional regulated by the College of Massage Therapy of BC. Usually only a massage from RMTs can be claimed under most extended health benefits.

RMTs can help treat and prevent injuries and disorders through the manual manipulation of soft tissue and therefore have an in-depth understanding of the structures of the body. This includes muscles, connective tissues, tendons, ligaments and joints.

Who Should See a Registered Massage Therapist?

Anyone! You don’t have to be injured or experience chronic pain to book an appointment with an RMT. Massage Therapy offers a wide range of benefits for everyone. Regular massages can help reduce stress, improve circulation and help increase flexibility just to name a few benefits.

For athletes, massage therapy can help prevent and manage repetitive stress injuries such as tennis elbow. Regular massage treatment can also help an injury heal quickly by increasing circulation to the area and relieves pain by reducing swelling and tension.

What To Expect?

Before your first appointment with an RMT, you will fill out a medical history form. This will provide the RMT with an overview of your health as well as assist in developing a personalized treatment plan. In addition to an overview of you medical history, the RMT will consult you about your injury or ailment and discuss their approach to treatment.

COAST’s RMTs are a critical part of our rehabilitation team and understand the importance of movement and functional reconditioning. Together we will work to help you build a stronger and more resilient body.
